Left Liberty Springs tentsite in the morning and got to Little Haystack about 9 AM. From there I had most of the ridge mostly to myself, only encountering maybe a dozen or so people total. That was the good news...the bad news was that it was mostly in the clouds so cool temps, a brisk breeze and minimal views. Once on Lafayette there were about 10-15 or so folks around. Hardly anyone on this small section of Garfield Ridge Trail and only a handful of people on Skookumchuck Trail. Yesterday I spotted a junker bicycle at the trailhead and rode it back to the Liberty Springs lot on the Franconia bike path. Looks like the ridge cleared up nicely later in the day.
There are some spots of mud lower on the Skookumchuck Trail but almost all of it is minor or avoidable with thoughtfully placed rocks. No other trail issues to report. |
