||Moat Mountain Trail|
|Date of Hike:
||Sunday, August 11, 2019|
|Parking/Access Road Notes:
||I was the only one in the lot at 6:00am. When I left around 11, it was overflowing onto West Side Road due to the Diana's bath tourists. |
||Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
|Water Crossing Notes:
||Water was low at all crossings so just an easy rock hop over |
|Trail Maintenance Notes:
||Trail was in great shape. it would be nice to have a few more markers, but this trail has never had an abundance |
||Saw a few on the way out, but they were most likely just headed to the Baths |
||only a few black flies on the way down |
|Lost and Found:
||Gorgeous morning for a climb. I had the entire mountain to myself for most of the day, I didn't see any other hikers until I was 1/3 of the way down.|
I always forget how steep this trail is. The first 2.6 miles is a flat walk through the woods to the junction with Attitash, then it goes up fast. All of the elevation gain is in the last 2 miles.
The summit was a little chilly just after 8am especially when the wind would gust, but the views were unreal: Crystal clear air for miles and miles. As much as I wanted to linger, the wind was brutal so I snapped a few pictures, slammed my victory beer, then got my butt back into the trees where it was warmer.
