Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: None of any significance in this section. The one crossing of the river is by a footbridge.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: For a route that doesn’t get a ton of traffic, it’s in pretty good shape. No blowdowns and well-blazed and signed at most junctions and road crossings. Brushy in a few spots, but pretty minimal.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I guess? The route crosses private property with livestock so I would recommend leashing them.
Bugs
Bugs: None.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing.

Comments
Comments: Following Beth’s lead from her report the other day which brought this trail back to my consciousness, I walked the first section from Sandwich Notch Road to Dale Road. A lovely route. Crossing the open pasture south of Mt. Israel provides a beautiful view up to the peak. Curious cows here too. :) Once along the river, walking is lovely and Secret Falls is a gem. Very little elevation gain in this section; it’s mostly flat with a little up at either end.

Very wet trail when I started out this morning but it dried out quickly with the wind. I took advantage of the rainy day yesterday and scouted out all the various access points and parking options along the entire route from Sandwich to South Tamworth, and will be back to explore the remaining sections.
