Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: First water crossing over Little River was a bit difficult at the crossing point. The guidebook recommendation is to just follow the unofficial trail alongside Little River (very well worn path) which eliminates two water crossings. Although difficult to cross, it was not impossible. The other two crossings were much easier.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There are a few blowdowns that are easily crossed over. There are also some dead overhangs that you should take care when crossing under. A few look a little unstable.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs: Saw some pretty cool caterpillars. One was a third instar Luna moth (Actias luna). Then another very interesting Heterocampa which I couldn't fully identify. No flies or mosquitoes!
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Found a trekking pole tip, left it at the trailhead information sign.
Comments: Morning started out with partly cloudy skies which then moved towards in the clouds. No views at the peak around 11AM. Came across some trace amounts of ice (emphasis on very very little), frozen mud, and some icicles in the last .5 to the summit, but this was nothing to worry about and you definitely did not need any microspikes. Foliage on the drive up looked to be getting closer and closer to peak with lots of yellow, orange, and light green. I expect that by this weekend (Oct 12-13 '19) foliage will be at its prime. Temps are dropping and winds were strong, pack accordingly.
