I'd guess there were about 30 vehicles in the area of the Sugarloaf lot on Zealand Road @ 12:30. Zealand Road has some pretty good sized potholes to this point. |

Other than the trail being well beaten there are no issues other than people doing everything they can to cause trail erosion in order to avoid mud and water. It never ceases to amaze me that people will spend righteous bucks on boots and then NOT use them for how they are intended to be used. |

There is some water pooling down low that can mostly be rock and/or root hopped. Some minor and not-so-minor mud throughout - mostly on the ridge where a few spots will make that familiar sucking sound. Just about all of the leaves are down but this trail gets so much use they are already being ground down and shuffled aside.
I was looking for a quick afternoon hike and this fit the bill - although I almost turned around when I saw the amount of cars near the lot. Once on the trail though it just didn't seem THAT crowded at any point. Lots of ledgy goodness at both peaks although clouds covered the tops of the Presis. I hadn't been on these peaks in a while and forgot how nice they are for the amount of effort involved. |
