Bald Mtn. first. Scrappy and clearly no longer 'bald.' Dropped down through super scrappy blowdown area, forded stream; made way upslope through scrappy blowdowns, then whippets, finally getting some better woods up a steep slope to summit. On the descent, took a more westerly route through MUCH better woods, contouring back around down low through nicer woods to the NW face to catch our ascent tracks. Plastic bag trick over boots made the stream crossings smooth and quick. This was steep and scrappy in places, and slick with new snow. Glad to have this one behind us.
Little Cambridge Black. Easy squeezie. Entered an old overgrown logging road heading north, to the east side of this peak. (Can see this Google satellite layer.) Followed this relatively open old skidder road, with occasional slash, for about 0.7 miles until we were just a bit north of due east of the peak. Took a bearing for the summit (now 0.4 as the crow flies) and had super open woods the entire way. Nice to get this easy one after the harder one in the morning.
Another fine day out with JEM3. |
