Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Several step overs and a couple of crawl unders on the Pine Bend Brook Trail. The trail sign at junction of Pine Bend Brook Trail was broken off at the post, we think by a very frisky moose! We found the upper portion of the sign about 4' away from the broken post in some brush. The area around the sign had a lot of evidence of moose activity. We propped the the sign back up in the snow next to the broken post pointing in the right direction for now, unless Mr. Moose comes back for a second round!

Comments
Comments: Spikes were fine up until the Sandwich Wilderness boundary. There was a few inches of dense snow here with a breakable crust. After that snowshoes are advised. There was about a foot of new snow up high, which was very loose and unconsolidated. As mentioned above, there was heavy moose activity in a section of trail near the Scaur Ridge / Pine Bend Brook trail junction with lots of moose-postholing! Our group of 5 wore a mix of spikes and snowshoes up to the first summit, and then we all wore snowshoes from North over to Middle, and all the way back down to within 3/4 mile of the TH. Good snowshoe track laid down, but it is still quite soft and would benefit from additional packing. There was a single set of snowshoe tracks coming up the Sabbaday Brook trail, and a single set of footprints from someone who came up North Slide and then went down Sacur Ridge.
