Comments
Comments: I had been reading recent reports that said you could snowshoe this whole thing, and I had been itching to get back into snowshoes. So I gave it a shot. I was not disappointed.
There is a fairly thin but solid base, with a couple inches of fluffy powder on top that is in the process of being consolidated. Tracks turned off at the Mizpah hut junction and I found myself breaking the couple inches of new snow the rest of the way. It got deeper as I approached treeline, but all easy breaking. There are a couple bushwhacks around small wet areas and I stayed with the bushwhack path as I remember from last year there are a couple places that the water keeps open all winter, and it was probably these spots. Last year you could look down several feet into these holes and see the water below.
The last little bit above treeline, I did the best I could to stay on the trail, but it was drifted and windswept, so basically all I did was a beeline to the one cairn I could tell was really a cairn, and then a beeline to the summit cairn. It seemed too small for a summit cairn but I went a little farther and got into that little spruce corridor that marks the Mizpah way down, so it must have been it.
Saw a couple guys who passed me on the way down, otherwise it was a very quiet solitary hike.
Thanks to those who made such a nice trench to hike on. Including the snowshoe rabbit, who did his part as well.
