When I got to the State Park HQ, I inquired about what trails were broken out, and the Ranger told me only White Cross and White Dot.
Seeing as I wanted to do anything but those two trails, I broke out the snowshoes from jump street, and prepared myself to do work. To my pleasant surprise, only about 2 of my 6 miles total required any “real†trail breaking. There is a ton of fresh powder on the western side of the mountain, and it’s unconsolidated. Many to all of those trails will need some serious snowshoe love to develop any kind of track. Summary of trail conditions below:
- Parker: broken out from SPHQ to Old Toll Road. Soft, but a very discernible path
- Old Toll Road: plowed, only a couple inches of packed down snow
- Cart Path/Mossy Brook/Great Pasture: to my amazement, there was a single set of snowshoe tracks from sometime this week that I followed. I added to the track, but it is still very soft, and pretty much requires snowshoes unless you want to be totally miserable sliding around everywhere
- Monte Rosa: again, amazingly, a set of tracks from sometime this week. Descending the trail I did a good amount of skiing based on how soft the snow was
- White Arrow: good and torn up from barebooters who walked up Old Toll Road |
