This was a tough hike for me because there was plenty of ice. At lower elevations, there were many stretches of trail with a thick, hard-packed layer of icy snow interspersed with bare trail. At higher elevations there were many areas of thick ice. We did fine with micro spikes on the ascent but slipped on the descent a couple of times. Removed micro spikes on the final ascent to the South Peak. Had to take off & put on the micro spikes several times during the descent. Snowshoes not necessary, however must proceed with caution on the descent due to the ice. Windy & cloudy day so we didn't get the best views. Might be wise to wait until more snow cover before hiking this peak. |
