Date of Hike: Thursday, December 26, 2019
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Appalachia Trailhead is plowed for the most part. A bit icy in parts, so take it slow, as always. Don't let a fender bender blow your trip!
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Ice - Blue, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Snow - Drifts
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction, Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Trivial throughout. Didn't check out the various falls, but on the main trails, things were fine.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Generally in good shape, though there are a couple blow-downs. Nothing that would require immediate attention.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I heard a couple spaniels in the distance, but right now, I'd probably not bring a pup on these trails. They're awfully icy and might lacerate Rover's paws mercilessly.

Comments
Comments: It was a great day to be out. Weather was very unusually warm and clear for the season, parking was plentiful, and the trails were in fine shape. Snow filled in a lot of the gaps between the rocks.

All that being said, I took a hard fall a bit of the way down Valley Way, so use caution on the trail. I got profoundly lucky, but it didn't have to go my way as well as it did.

Photos and a more detailed write-up on my blog, as always. Cheers!
