Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A couple of passable blow downs, one early, one up high- the DOC orange "welcome to the alpine zone don't step on the plants" sign needs a new sign post! has broken across the trail-
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Two very cute ones at the summit- they came up Gorge Brook, I think. I would not take a dog on Beaver Brook! Too many steep ice chutes.

Comments
Comments: I wore crampons all the way up til just past the shelter and was super glad to have them and wished I had an axe at times. There are many steep ice flows along the cascades. Wore crampons down too. That said, I saw plenty of people in just microspikes who seemed to have made it up and down OK! Past the shelter the trail is firmly packed and in good shape- just one big ice flow to maneuver around. Summit was a moonscape of rime ice and freezing fog, but I think the last folks up may have had a peek of sun- by the time I reached the Mt Blue outlooks the view had opened out over the valley. A really nice hike- the waterfalls are beautiful in their icy gowns...but definitely bring traction of some sort!
