We got a late start and the snow was coming down quite furiously around 1030. It was more of a mix as we made the 1.2 mile trek to the trailhead from the relocated parking area on York Pond Rd. The snow was more mixed, until we got closer to the trailhead. After about a mile of hiking the snow finally subsided and we were left with some decent conditions. Occasional wind, but otherwise we were benefiting from the early warm weather that was coming the following day. By the end of the day the snow was already getting soft and sticky.
The monorail was present, but had maybe an inch or two of powder on it so it needed additional consolidating. We used snowshoes on the entire trail. The warm weather probably ruined the trail the following two days.
The hut smelled of stale cigarettes, which is disappointing. Just step outside if you want to do that.
There is a sign for the summit (that I am not sure if I remember from the last time I was up there probably close to five years ago) so that made finding it easy with the snow levels.
These trails are gradual and never get too challenging, but with the new road walk it can make for a long day.
I'll post photos, GPS track, and a write-up this coming weekend. |
