| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parking lot was not plowed yet but there was so little snow it wasn't a problem. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Wet Trail, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Snow - Drifts, Slush |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
The main crossing about a mile down the trail is bridged but I worry how long that will last given the warm weather. Also, you want to veer right immediately after this crossing! It looks like there are some old tracks heading the wrong way. |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A few blowdowns but easy to get around. |

I broke trail the whole way up to Moriah. Snow was very soft most of the way up to the ridge and then most of the snow on the ridge had a layer of ice. Beautiful at the top. I didn't see anyone on during the hike but while I was summitting Moriah it looked like a group came down Carter-Moriah from the South and headed down Stony Brook Trail. Stony Brook is well trekked out but also very mushy with some exposed rock at lower elevations. I finished around 1pm so I imagine things only worsened over the course of the afternoon. |
