Comments: interesting day in the northern presis! forecast was a bit different than how the day actually turned out but to be expected in new england. started up air line in the rain which eventually turned to snow which made for pretty slow ascent given the wet snow pack. finally put on microspikes about a half mile or so below tree-line, probably would have been helpful earlier! blustery with periods of calm, new snow covering boulders, lots of ice. decided to save adams for another day and took the air line cutoff instead. very deep snow on the two tenths of a mile to the hut, snowshoes helpful especially close to the trees. absolutely beautiful. path up to madison was fine with just spikes, kept them on for a lovely slide down valley way back to the parking lot. snow the whole time, turning to hail above the waterfalls and then a very wet and slushy trail section running parallel to the fallsway.
