Comments: getting up to do this hike this morning i noted zporter had hiked the doubleheads yesterday, which was a nice surprise. sandwich notch road was well packed by snowmobiles. i picked up zachs tracks on crawford ridgepole and where he started bushwhacking i decided to stay with the trail. this was fairly short lived. to get through the cliffs the trail climbs up a steep gully before scrambling up some ledges and i wasn't thrilled with how it looked with the snow cover. i opted instead to slab south around the cliffs, picking up zachs tracks for a bit, before choosing a gentler line up than he did. once up on the broad plateau below the summit i once again walked onto his tracks which i followed to the summit of northeast doublehead. as he noted the snow conditions were difficult owing to breakable crust. i continued using his tracks to the saddle with north north doublehead, but ultimately diverged from them on the ascent for gentler lines. there was another older set of tracks high up on the mountain as well, but they did not appear to go to the summit. the side trip to the view ledge to the rest of the squam range was definitely worth it. heading down to the sandwich notch road i pretty quickly diverged from zachs tracks for a line towards the saddle with dinsmore. good open going down to the road. this set up a very moderate ascent of dinsmore heading pretty much due east from sandwich notch road. other than the challenges of the crust it was a straight forward hike up with open woods all the way, but for a bit of hobble and spruce around the top. zporter had been there this morning from points unknown. i descended in my tracks and followed sandwich notch road back out.
