Absolutely spectacular day to be out. Blue bird day (save for some very high cirrus). Bareboot for the road walk and spikes went on at Garfield trailhead. Spikes were sufficient all the way to Garfield summit. We had a lengthy stay at the summit while deciding whether to head along the ridge to Skookumchuck. We opted to go for it as the weather was beautiful and we'd made good time. It was completely unbroken and the descent from Garfield was a blast through about 6 to 8 inches of powder. The sentiment wasnt quite the same on the climbs but the beauty of the woods made it hard to get sore about it (mentally that is). Made it to Skookumchuck trail an hour prior to sunset and soaked in some views before making out way down. Some light powder down Skookumchuck but the lower sections are chopped up significantly. Snowshoes were definitely the easiest way to navigate it especially after dark. We made it to the car with a cheer and sore legs but smiles still on our faces. |
