Comments
Comments: First quarter mile or so was bare and dry. Next half mile or so was wet/running water on trail, with snow in the woods. Next half mile or so was slush. From there, over Surprise and to Moriah, was snow. The muddy section awhile after Surprise (rotten bogwalks in summer) was muddy - barebooters were postholing into it. The short scrambles were iced over. Tried to fix up the footbed by snowshoeing up, but there has been enough barebooting that snowshoeing will be too much of a hastle until the next storm. Microspikes seemed like a good match. In general, snow depths ranged from 0" (near road) to about 18" (just before final steeps).
