Started up late at 1:30, first ones on the trail since the storm. There was about 4-6 inches on snow covered by an iced crust. First time trail breaking. It was rough. Relatively easy grades until the second snowmobile trail crossing then the real work began. Note, don’t follow our tracks across the road and into the woods... go up the road a bit and correct trail is obvious and on right. The snow on the next section was very loose and you slide backward a bit on every step. Had to use the poles to get up the hill. About 10 snow mobiles at summit. Views were spectacular. It was getting later so we made fast time on the snowmobile trail until the 1.2m crossing and jumped back into the trail to complete the decent. Only saw one hiker bear booted coming up the trail as we were almost finished. Great day. |
