Beaver Brook was broken out when we got there, but there was a lot of granular snow over ice which made for hard going with crampons on the ascent. We switched to snowshoes at the Benton Trail junction and wore them to the Moosilauke summit and all the way back to the trailhead. Well, some of us did. The rest switched to crampons. You don't really appreciate how steep Beaver Brook in until you come down it.
Bushwhacked Blue on the descent. Couldn't find the herd path, so we snowshoed into the trees and hiked to the summit. |
