Slow going past Pierce. Lots of drifts, snowshoes are a must for the full loop. We broke Edmands Path from Eisenhower summit down about .75 miles where we meet up with a snowshoe track. We came in a bit low beneath Eisenhower cliff (sorry!), so there is a steep climb back up to the trail.
Easy, well packed trail up to Pierce. We made great time. Weather on the peak was cloudy, but otherwise mild. On the way over to Eisenhower, the snowshoes really came in handy, although we saw a few people still using spikes. I wouldnt recommend it as the drifts were 3+ ft in parts. Ascending Eisenhower was much windier, but still without issue. The traction on our snowshoes was more than enough. The decent had some postholes from one person ahead of us (which turned around not far from the summit), but was otherwise unbroken. We continued down and onto Edmands Path. This was really deep powder. We were sinking over knee deep with snowshoes and sometimes further. Progress was very slow until we reached a well broken path, about 0.75 miles from the Eisenhower split. Overall, a great day in the mountains despite a mostly view less day. |
