Road walk easily barebootable, very firm in the morning for fast travel and pretty soft in the afternoon.
Thanks to those who broke out and hiked Signal Ridge Trail on Saturday! Very firm track, with most hikers wearing snowshoes in the morning for the climb. With the mild afternoon temps, snow was sticking to spikes and snowshoes, so out of necessity many reverted to barebooting for the way down, with minimal trail damage.
Caution at the summit tower: with these warm temps, HUGE chunks of ice are falling off the tower and some could do major damage if they struck someone
Sawyer River Road was inundated with snowmobiles in the afternooon, but most slowed down and were considerate; none as we passed through in the morning.
Beautiful day to be up on Signal Ridge! Ran into legends Nancy and Charlie Foote once again, Charlie working on his winter-over 70 patch.
Lost my right meteor mitt shell, darn; if anyone finds it... |
