Beautiful, hard-packed snowshoe highway all the way from the Cog to the intersection with Gulfside (THANK YOU weekenders). I switched to micro-spikes above treeline because I was anticipating a bunch of bare rocks and ice (aka every other winter hike I've had up Jewell), but I was pleased to find beautifully packed trail all the way up. I regret even taking the snowshoes off! I goofed, the televators would have been a great asset! Hard snow all the way across to Jefferson summit with a few loose drifts, but no big deal. I put the snowshoes back on below treeline on my return. Gorgeous views, warm temps and the 4 other hikers I encountered were all really chill. |
