At lower elevations there was a few inches of new snow. Snow depth increased considerably as I got higher. Approaching the Starr King there was about a foot of snow and many drifts that were much deeper. the ridge to Waumbek was also heavily drifted and it seemed the snow was knee deep (with snow shoes) all the way to Waumbek. After passing Brenda about a half mile from the start, I was the only trail breaker but I passed three groups of two on my hike down so it’s now well tracked out. Still very soft so snow shoes are the way to go. The sun threatened to come out but it never did and there were no views but it was still a fun hike. |
