Beautiful blue skies today, good of a view as I've ever seen up there! Wind was another story, eye protection was a must. Trails were hard packed snow, runnable, with some exposed ice on Air Line steeps, and I was happy with hillsound trail crampons the whole time. The top of Air Line had some unconsolidated powder and some exposed dirt just above treeline. Madison was pretty bony, seems like not much snow is left in places. Top of valley way also had some loose powder over the hard pack. Snowshoes would be nice for ascending the top of valley, and could quickly become necessary if it warms up. |
