We were looking for a mellow hike to do some sledding. This route was a perfect choice. The up starts right away and pretty much continues to climb all of the way to the summit. Along the way you get to pass the Black Mountain Cabin (you can rent through the USFS). We used snow shoes to take advantage of the heel lifts. There were a half a dozen spots where the snow was melted away to expose the stream below. Without these obstacles I’m guessing you could sled from top to bottom without ever having to dismount your sled. Probably one of the best sled runs in the White Mountains - wide enough to not have to worry about the trees on the side and steep enough to keep you going. |
