some easily stepped across, one slightly delicate crossing where snow is deteriorating, sound of water running under the snow further up Valley Way. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
2 or 3 trees across the trail, at least one about 6"-8" diameter- all step-overs. Lots of brush laying on the upper Valley Way from clipping- they are still working on the hut and this is the pack trail, they must have got tired of fighting the branches where the snowpack is still deep. |

| Comments: |
Mostly dirt & rock trail until around the Scar trail, barebooted up to about the Watson Path jct., put on microspikes to the hut. Sometimes pretty skinny teetering monorail leads to mainly rock, all barebooting in the Alpine Zone.
Met only one other hiker, he had come up King Ravine, which he described as " not dangerous ". Lots of activity at the hut, where they are wrapping up extensive renovations & additions. Not yet "open", but a polite request for water was granted. small amounts of icy snow here and there going up Adams and Madison. Winds started picking up a little in the afternoon, otherwise t-shirt weather ! Descended Valley Way, still pretty firm in the late afternoon. Back at Appalachia, another guy showed up who had found some downhill skiing still in King Ravine. Fantastic day out. |
