Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The smaller rough parking area can really only fit one MAYBE two cars if parked very carefully. Maybe more if you’re all in a group and don’t care about blocking one another. The guidebook mentions a pull off further down the road where you could park too. Only car there at 1:15pm. One other when I returned at 2:15pm but didn’t see them on the trail.

Comments: Spur of Gardner Mtn

A nice, short redline to start my Sunday :) There is a little kiosk at the start with a mailbox where you can sign in. The trail does not start our steep. Moderate ascent, then flattens out, then even descends a bit to the first sharp turn at 0.3mi as mentioned in the guidebook. Keep a close eye out for the turn 80yds after to the left. They are both marked by double blazes and the second one even by a cairn but the second one is just awkward and would be easy to walk by as dead ahead is a road. After that the steeper ascent starts and continues until the top where there are good views south.

I saw absolutely no snow either on or off the trail! Quite a different experience from my postholing two days before in Crawford Notch. The trail was mostly dry. Not much mud and what there was wasn’t deep but it was very slippery and I took two falls on my way down close to my car. Maybe spikes would have helped lol.
