Comments
Comments: First 3 miles had been lightly broken by a cross-country skier! The snow on the bottom half is sticky and wet 6 inches deep. About a mile from the junction where the path from Hancock and South Hancock split on the loops, it went to unbroken snow. The snow was 4-5 inches of loose heavy snow, the going was tough and strenuous going up to Hancock. Be careful with your footing, under the loose snow is blue ice, which was a challenge going up and down. I would suggest snowshoes with aggressive traction because even with my Tubbs Mountaineers I fell about 3 times going down the trail...DANG HANCOCK WAS STEEP. I did not go past the summit of Hancock, but from the Hancock, S Hancock split to the summit of Hancock is broken out. I was way too exhausted to push on clockwise to South Hancock. Views were great if you have the traction to get up there, enjoy! Spikes may be useless unless the snow melts off a bit.
