| Water Crossing Notes: |
There were some mud sections that acted like crossings and the actual crossing has rocks to hop over. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
If you start from the Steinwachs Trailhead, there is very little signage to the actual trail. The markers on all these trails need to be re-painted, it was very hard to see them at times. |

This hike completed the final peaks that I had to do for all 12 of the Belknap Mountain Range. I mapped it out on OutdoorActive to see how many miles it would be and it estimated around 8 miles; I ended up doing 9.2 because the parking lot is lower than expected. I parked at the Quarry Mountain Forest lot/Steinwachs Trailhead - you head up the road and there is a house on the left. The trail starts at the green gate, there is a Belknap Conversation sign on the front, you can't miss it. You will follow this road for a bit, you will cross a wooden bridge and at one point you'll see stone stairs and the beginning of some blue markers, this is the beginning of the Reed Road Trail. You'll go up a series of small switchbacks until you hit the Quarry Trail which is white markers - you can go left or right, I went right to hit W. Quarry first. None of the peaks really have views, but there are some viewpoints along the way. I only saw 3 people on the trail and I didn't see them until about 3 hours into my hike which was nice. This is a great long trail in the Lakes Region if you want to get away from everything and feel like you are truly in the backcountry of nature. |
