A great hike with spectacular views. We left bikes at the Cherry Mountain trailhead, then drove to the Owls Head trailhead and started our hike there. Tons of mud in the lower section of this trail and this part is a bit tricky to follow. At about 2300 feet, we hit the snow-line; and at about 2700 feet, we put on spikes.Higher up, near the summit the snow became a bit drifted up in places. We really enjoyed the incredible views of the Presidential Range at the top.(An awesome place to be on a clear day!) Going down to the col was a bit difficult and tedious as it was steep, rocky, and icy.(Strongly recommend using spikes here.) A bit of a bumpy monorail going up to Martha, where we enjoyed more views. On our descent, we took off our spikes at around 2900 feet. When we got to the bottom, we got out our bikes and rode back to our car. A great hike! |
