Arrived at the trailhead at 7:30 and was the first car. Snow/ice free trail until around 2,600 ft. when I put on my microspikes. Solid, stable monorail all the way to the summit. Due to the below freezing temps overnight, not a single posthole today. Lots of rime on the trees and a dusting-inch of fresh powder starting around 3,000 ft. Detoured over to South Peak before heading up to Moosilauke summit. Gorgeous day above treeline! Not the slightest bit of wind.
Passed 8 other people coming up Glencliff Trail on my way down. Most people covered their faces and did their best to move off the trail. A group of 3 teenage boys did not make any attempt to social distance. They also didn't have proper footwear or any traction and were already having a difficult time on the patchy ice/snow in that area. I warned them that it was solid ice and snow the rest of the way. There were 4 other cars in the lot when I got back to the trailhead, 2 with MA plates. |
