Comments: Red Trail (Anna), Blue Trail (Anna), Blue Trail (Shannon), Red Trail (Goat)

Went out today to wrap up some redlining, and check out a few new places. Managed to get two parking spots in the "lower" lot at the end of Alton Mountain Rd, and saw plenty more people rolling in before we left around 9. The red Anna trail is in great shape, and we never saw anyone on that stretch. Saw a couple on our way down the blue trail to the outlook (beautiful as always). Heading down the blue Anna trail, it was also in good shape and with no one on it. A little mud/muck here and there where water is perking up, but otherwise permanent and temporary water bars are functioning nicely.

Crossing Old Stage Road to get onto the rest of the blue trail was fine, easy dry trail with plenty of red trillium blooming. Nice view from ledge out to the swamp. We took the rest of the trail down to the junction and continued on toward Shannon, only to check out the trail running around the edge of the swamp. Beautiful! Cool beaver activity, and fine views of the backsides of Mack, Rand and Anna. This section of blue trail heading up to Shannon is where the new bridges are, they are a welcome sight.

We went back to the junction to take the blue trail leading to Goat Pasture Hill, and although it has a few true mucky spots, it is in much better condition than previous years. Easy trail that runs by the river to the junction with the red trail. Red trail heading up Goat Pasture Hill was also in fantastic condition, with no muck. Found some painted trillium on the north side, almost back to Old Stage.

We saw two couples, and two singles. Gorgeous day.
