| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Two NH cars in the parking lot when we arrived; they were gone when we got back. Replaced by a lot full of Mass and RI plates...10 cars in total, but only saw 2 people on the trails. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |

| Water Crossing Notes: |
The crossing of the brook in the first 100 yards of Sandwich Mtn Trail is still rock-hoppable depending on comfort level. A well worn bushwhack from the road is visible and can negate this crossing easily. Drake's Brook crossing at .4 is hoppable as well; a better crossing of this brook lies about 100 feet above the trail's official crossing, there is a small cairn on the far side of the river marking its location. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
All trails in pretty good shape |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Drake's Brook provides plenty of water...but leaving the brook at about 2 miles, there is no water that I remember seeing on the rest of the hike. |

| Bugs: |
None at all. Glorious. |

Great day for a a round trip up to Sandwich Dome. Started On Drake's Brook, and checked out the Fletcher Cascades...they are still flowing...barely; probably a lot more impressive in April, but still enjoyed them. Drake's Brook only has one small section of significant elevation, and even that is on switchbacks; very pleasant trail up. Jennings peak has great views southwest, better than Sandwich, and worth the .2 diversion. Sandwich Dome similarly has no real "Steep" sections, but the last miles ascends steadily to the peak. Perfect windless and bugless conditions up top, saw a few small remnants of snow on the trail up here that signal the last dying breath of winter, which we are always happy about. Took Sandwich mountain trail for the descent; here we saw our first person of the day (and 1 of only 3 total). Trail follows the ridge for a time, and has some nice outlooks, then descends steadily and fairly steeply for the last mile or so to the brook, which is crossable with some leaps of faith (bushwhack is also easily doable). Great 10.5 miles on a great loop on good trails with solid footing and little steep sections. Definitely recommend this loop. |
