| Dog-Related Notes: |
60lb hound dog approved! Besides getting soaked in the rain... that wasn't his favorite part.
We crossed east branch of the pemi Sunday morning before the torrential rain hit... there was an easy crossing for him just a bit downstream to a sandbar.. with just a quick second of him having to be in dog-shoulder deep water. He is getting so much better at river crossings. We were very proud parents!
The crossing at the top of Thoreau Falls was only stressful because of torrential rain and thunder making rocks very slippery... Without the rain it would've been okay.
Left dog and fiancee at Norcross Pond while doing Mount Nancy.... way too steep and narrow for our on-leash dog at least. |
|
| Bugs: |
Bug spray & net definitely necessary. Surprisingly no bugs camping near Stillwater Junction area on Carrigain Notch Trail. |
|
| Lost and Found: |
There was a black patagonia puffy hanging on a down tree on the Nancy Pond Trail... somewhere in the western, flat/lower elevation section of that trail... |

Started at Nancy Pond Trhd... up to Norcross Pond... did the path to Mount Nancy while dog and fiancee hung out at the pond... The path starts at the northwest end of Norcross Pond, just before you cross the outlet. There's a fork right away; stay left. Although unmarked, it is very straightforward to follow. Then we went down Nancy Pond tr to Carrigain Notch Trail.. Camped in the stillwater junction area. Next morning took Wilderness Trail over to Thoreau Falls, then took that up to the AT and over to Ethan Pond Trhd. Great hike! Good to do the e branch pemi crossing while the water was low. The washout on Thoreau wasn't bad either... just scrambled down and then you can see the path continue on the other side. Lots of thunder while crossing Thoreau Falls so we didn't even stop to enjoy the falls... oops. At least the sun came out for our last few miles :) |
