Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Some wet/slippery rocks at the Bumpus Brook crossing at Hitchcock Falls require care, but ultimately it was not a huge problem.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails were in great shape for the most part. Parts of the Howker Ridge Trail up high and Randolph Path down low are starting to get a bit grown in.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Heat, humidity, and not much of a wind on that side of Madison made for a very buggy day, even at higher elevations. Ended the day with quite a collection of mosquito bites.

Comments
Comments: A beautiful day, but high temps and minimal wind made ascending Howker Ridge very sweaty and buggy work. I hoped to bag Adams as well, but was feeling drained from the heat. The appearance of rolling thunder in the distance as I descended to the Madison Spring Hut gave me the pretext to officially bail on Adams with dignity.

I only saw eight people all day.
