Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Thursday, June 25, 2020
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parking area is rather small-fits 3, maybe four vehicles. When returning there were was a truck parked on the other side of the road. Reaching the lot requires taking a narrow and bumpy gravel road, but it is very short and not a problem.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: N/A
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Not a lot of people hike this mountain using this trail, but the trail was clean and was in reasonably good shape considering.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Only saw one. There was another one sensing our presence and barking loudly, but it was leashed and off the trail. If you bring yours, just keep an eye on them at chapel rock.
Bugs
Bugs: Even with a slight breeze they were quite nasty. Applied bug spray but still got bit by black flies and a mosquito. Spider webs were also a nuisance considering there was very few people on the trail. Also found a tick afterwards-so beware.

Comments
Comments: I hike the 52WAV (think this is 31 or 32/52, I'll have to check), and I noticed that this mountain was recently added to the list. Bugs aside, the cooler weather made for very pleasant hiking conditions. Most people hike Pine from the south since it's very quick, but we decided to go for the much longer route from the north. It was clear that Pine mt. trail gets less use, but the trail was mostly easy and the footing was good exception for one short section below the summit area.

Chapel rock was open for the public-probably not common during the summer, but with COVID still a thing there likely won't be services there for a while. Definitely check it out if you're planning a hike here, as it gives a wide view towards the presidentials. If hiking from the north, you actually have to descend the ledge trail a bit to reach the main viewpoint, so don't turn around at the summit!
