We drove into the ponds area looking to save us from a significant climb from western approach off of Nash Stream Road. From the Little Bog Pond boat ramp and parking area, we walked about 0.6 miles up a rough road, north up to Whitcomb Pond and to a camp on the north side of the pond.
We bushwhacked NW'ly towards the col to the east of the peak. The initial couple of hundred feet, trying to get away from the pond's edge, was a bit dense and scrappy, but it soon opened up. The woods were a mix of more open areas with ferns, rocky areas, and some blowdowns. As we hit the col, we climbed W'ly towards the peak, keeping just to the south of the "bumps" you'll see on the map.
The summit is a super obvious pointy top. Several strings on a tree by no jar. And that ubiquitous yellow paint :-[ (scowl)
Returned via the same route, hitting a slightly better line on the descent. All-in-all, a nice route for this NH300 peak.
Great day and another successful hike with friend, JEM3. |
