Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We were able to get prime spots at the train station and Willey House around 8. Both were overflowing when we returned this afternoon.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Slippery but rock hoppable. The upper Avalon crossing is tricky because someone put down a bunch of logs.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Lots of unmitigated erosion, particularly on the Willey Range Trail. Some of the wood steps are hard to get onto due to the erosion around them. Lots of active gullying, including off the back side of Field. I recollect a blowdown on the Cascade Loop. Brushy on the ridge on Willey Range Trail (car wash effect on a wet day like today).
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Some dogs may struggle on the wooden steps heading up Willey.
Bugs
Bugs: Minimal due to weather.

Comments
Comments: Kedron Flume Trail was damp with one slippery section of ledge. Willey Range Trail up Willey had a few areas of water flowing down the trail, unmitigated. Between the peaks there were also a few sections of unmitigated water flow, as well as plenty of minor mud. A-Z Trail was slippery aboe the top water crossing. Avalon Trail was tedious in the rooty section below the upper water crossing. Cascades off the Cascade Loop were impressive.

Variable weather, with rain in the notches this morning and breaks of sun in Franconia. Light sprinkles on the ascent. Fog finally lifted as we were descending Mt. Tom. Sun came out in Crawford Notch later in the day.
