| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Large lot off route 16. Lots of vehicles in lot at 7:45AM from the overnight campers. Fortunately there were still open spots in the lot. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
All five crossings were easy rock hops. No need for the bushwhack around the third and fourth crossing of Rocky Branch. Managed to find rocks above water to make the crossings. In high water these crossings become difficult. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trails free of obstructions. All trails had sections with either standing or running water. The section of the Rocky Branch trail from the height of land down to Rocky Branch had a particularly wet stretch that luckily had many well placed rocks to aid in a dry passage. Similarly, the Isolation Trail had many rocks to step on in the wet spots. Unfortunately, the Davis Path had many mud spots with mostly decrepit bog bridges. The Davis Path could use rock stepping stones in the mud sections to prevent the widening of the trail. |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw one dog. Easy trail for dogs with plenty of water. |

| Comments: |
The water levels on Rocky Branch made this approach to Mt Isolation viable today. During high water it is best to approach from Boott Spur or from the south on the Davis Path. Saw turtlehead, goldenrod, touch-me-nots and asters today. Good views from Mt Isolation even with a lot of clouds. The summit of Mt Washington was in and out of clouds. Two wilderness campsites off the Isolation Trail. One between the third and fourth crossing of Rocky Branch and the other between the fifth crossing and Davis Path. One hiker (Chris) completed his 48 peak on Mt Isolation. There was a pile of sticks at the entrance to the Engine Hill bushwhack. |
