 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
A smaller parking lot than I remember. Spots for maybe a dozen or so. Those were full so we parallel parked opposite. Room for almost a half dozen extra cars doing that. We arrived at 10:30ish and left around 4:30pm or so when the lot had only a half dozen or so cars left in it. The lot is well signed from the Kanc. The very short dirt road leading to the parking area is very bumpy so slow down before you make that turn! |

 | Water Crossing Notes: |
The crossing of White Brook was an easy rock hop. Nothing of any consequence. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
The trail is adequately blazed in yellow and is easy to follow. I don’t remember any blowdowns on the trail although my friend pointed out a big widowmaker up high. It may have been off trail though. Junctions are well signed. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
There’s a bit of rock scrambling and some ledges so you may want to be careful. Not much water either. |
|
 | Bugs: |
Never noticed them or applied big spray! Some yellow jacket like looking thing on the eastern ledges that was all up in my food. My friend was kind enough to shoo it away and it didn’t sting her (to my surprise!) so perhaps it wasn’t the stinging kind?! |

Although I’ve hiked this a couple times in middle and high school with friends and family, it felt good to redline this again as I didn’t know if I hit all the spurs and such when I did it back in the day ;) This worked well as this friend was new to hiking and needed to do something easy. Either I misidentified the summit or missed the spur left to an outlook (no distance given so not concerned for redlining though) as it came before what I thought was the mostly wooded high point. Anyway, good views there and on the eastern ledges. Also hit up Allen’s Ledge and dropped down the additional 25yds as described in the guidebook. Cool view from there as well. You could see The Captain from viewpoints near the peak which was a treat as there aren’t too many places you can see that cliffy peak. Also, the views from this summit felt a bit unique to me as I wasn’t able to identify as much as I would have thought although I knew I’d seen the vast majority of it before...just all from a different angle. The view to Passaconaway is of course very unique and was practically begging me to bushwhack up it.
The trail is in great shape although this hike was a few days ago and I’ve hiked so much lately that there’s probably some details I’ve forgotten about. Saw maybe a dozen or so others out. A popular hike but not too crowded. The trail was dry as far as I recall. |
