Mine was the first car in at 9:45, there were 4 others at 2:00. Probably parking for 6-8 cars if the spaces are used efficiently. |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
To access the Mahoosuc Trail trailhead; once you leave the parking lot and cross the railroad bridge, take a left and follow the signs that read either Mahoosuc Trail or AMC Trail. There's one junction missing a sign, but just keep the river on your left. Eventually you reach Hogan Road, this is the road the ATVs use. Take a left on to Hogan Road, cross the bridge, then take a right just after the bridge. This trail leads to a service road which will lead you to the MT trailhead. Don't take the left just after the power lines, that's not the MT. The MT will eventually appear on your left.
Easy to follow, blue-blazed but many blazes have faded. Clearly the MT does not get as much use as other trails. There's one blowdown about 2/3 in where you get to practice the Limbo; all other blowdowns have either been dealt with or are manageable. All junctions have signage. |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
The one I saw looked happy. I appreciated that the dog's mistress asked if I was OK with dogs. |
|
| Bugs: |
You know those tiny little bugs that dive-bomb your eyeballs? There were a lot of those! Plus, as I was the first one in on this day I destroyed a million spider webs. |

A correction in accessing the Mahoosuc Trail trailhead: I had the name of the roads incorrect; the service road is Hogan Road. Corrected directions below: To access the Mahoosuc Trail trailhead; from the parking lot on RT 16 cross the railroad bridge, take a left once you are off the bridge and follow the signs that read either Mahoosuc Trail or AMC Trail. There's one junction missing a sign, but just keep the river on your left. Eventually you will reach the road the ATVs use. Take a left on this road, cross the bridge, then take a right just after the bridge. This trail leads to Hogan Road which will lead you to the MT trailhead. Once on Hogan Road don't take the left just after the power lines, that's not the MT.
After leaving the service road the first half of the MT was mostly soft, needle-covered, and dry. The second half was wet, sections very muddy (moose prints!), and slippery in places. The north-facing ledges you come to as you near the summit are not the summit, that is further down the trail, has a few cairns, and no significant view. I went past the summit to the AT.
The views from the ledges to the south are spectacular! |
