Grandview Mountain, Grandview NE (Fire Tower), Lost Town of Peeling
Today was an enjoyable exploration along the old Mt. Cilley Road to cellar holes and sites within the abandoned/lost town of Peeling (1804-1860's). We successfully found sites: Dr. Sawyer; Spruce Oil Still; and R. G. Smith. We followed that up with a bushwhack, at times along the route of an old trail (at times, not) up to Grandview (NH500) and then over to Grandview NE (Fire tower). In the col between the two Grandview peaks was a pile of rotting lumber from the tower deconstruction around 1960. Bushwhack was through easy / fairly open woods. On the NE peak, there are tower posts and other artifacts. A fun morning of exploring with Ken H. and Larry Y. |
