Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: If you try to drive to Pond of Safety in a low-clearance vehicle, then you are going to have a bad day! the half mile before Hunter pass spur has about 10 sharp dips in the road. Going slow in a newer model Subaru Outback I was still scraping my bumper. Don't try to drive past the pond road, it is a waste of time as there is nowhere to park near the trail head. Park at the pond turnoff and it is a 3 minute flat walk

Water Crossing Notes: pretty dry
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Concentrated mess of large blowdowns on Crescent Ridge just above the "Lafayette Viewpoint". one large blowdown at the Underhill intersection that is a duck under. These were the two that stood out. Four Soldiers and Underhill have a lot of very overgrown areas but I figure that is the norm. A few bog bridges on these two trails are about to snap in half by the sound/feel of them. Good blazing for the most part.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Good dog trails. The difficult scramble just below the South viewpoint on Mt. Crescent Trail was no problem for Fin to go up. Would be a bit tougher going down, and difficult for some dogs in general. Some water here and there but a bit dry today.
Bugs
Bugs: Do leeches count?! Do not swim in the Pond of safety unless you don't mind warm, murky water and lots and lots of leeches!!! Another day of snagging a million spiderwebs, as well.

Comments
Comments: Awesome day of solitude and redlining. Only saw three other hiking parties. A HUGE thanks to Sean and Vicky (and their pup Elvis) from Gorham, who I ran into twice. The second time was on peek Path as they were about to finish their hike. We started to chat and I mentioned Fin was suffering because I had mismanaged our water supply and we had been dry for some time. We had just jogged a half mile on Randolph Hill road in the blazing sun and it took its toll. They immediately offered up a full bottle of water and half a bladder that Elvis was carrying in his doggy pack. While we did find water on Carlton Notch, this trail magic really helped us out a bunch. Superb views of King Ravine all over the place.
