Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The crossings of Hellgate, Redrock, and Twin brooks were easy as the water levels are low. These crossings may be difficult at high water levels. The crossings of Franconia Brook and Lincoln Brook on the Lincoln Brook trail were easy today. These crossings are difficult at moderate to high water levels.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails in great condition. There were only three trees across the Franconia Brook trail that were easy to step over. There is a short distance of the Franconia Brook Trail between the lower junction with the Lincoln Brook Trail and Hellgate Brook that is swamped from beaver activity. One can avoid a soaking by skirting the water in the trail although there is no way to avoid the boot sucking mud.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Good for dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: None

Comments
Comments: This was the first time I hiked the Franconia Brook Trail between the two junctions for the Lincoln Brook trail. The Franconia Brook trail has only a 750 foot elevation gain in 5.2 miles from the Lincoln Woods Trail to 13 Falls. Most of the way had dry trail surfaces. At midday there was nobody at the 13 Falls tent sites. I ventured ~.3 miles up the Lincoln Brook Trail from 13 Falls to views the cascades and pools of a tributary stream. On the return I decided to check out the crossings of Franconia and Lincoln Brooks on the Lincoln Brook Trail and then used the Black Pond herd path and Black Pond Trail to reach the Lincoln Woods trail. Saw some relics from the logging railroad era in the woods.

Met many hikers having various itineraries today.
