Comments
Comments: After parking off the highway at Kancamagus Pass Overlook, we walked west on the highway a few 100 feet, jumprd the guardrail and whacked into the woods, headed to the knob just south of our take-off point. It was a steep climb through thick spruce. Not a desirable start to the whack. The climb continued over the knob, into the col between Mt. Kanc. We then headed up the mountain staying on the east ridge, still winding our way through not nice blowdowns and scrappy stuff. We stayed to the west to avoid cliff bands. As we neared the summit the terrain leveled off and woods opened up to a pleasant walk for the last quarter mile, following herd paths. We signed-in and exited from the summit, heading almost directly west. We hiked through open woods to the col and turned north, following the drainage out to the Kanc. This was a much better track, although it was scrappy in places. We came out just west of the drainage. I would recommend taking this route rather than the route we took on our ascent.
