After the Hancocks, I started the bushwhack to West Huntington at the near-dry stream (half mile from the trailhead) and followed the drainage up quite a ways, it was mostly dry and it was an easy rock-hop up. Not sure this saved a lot of time, but it was a nice change from a lot of spruce slaps. Hit thick woods and steep terrain near the top. Found the high point after a little hunting around and then traversed SW near the edge for the views. For the descent from the SW bump, I took a bearing of roughly 320 and found good footing and moderate terrain, and while the woods weren't wide open, they were open enough to move easily which made for a pleasant descent. |
