I started the bushwhack just before the Wilderness boundary on the Stairs Col Trail, steep terrain and open woods quickly turned to steep terrain and scrappy woods. Managed to either avoid the cliff bands or find an opening to go up them. Woods continued to get thicker near the summit. When I left the summit, I avoided the most direct line to Stairs Mtn; woods seemed to be slightly less thick to the north. Walked along part of the base of the Stairs with its impressive cliffs. Picked up the NE-SW ridge from the north, woods never opened up, and I popped out of the woods on the Stairs Spur. |
