Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Small lot for a few cars at the Hammond trailhead. I was surprised to see a few other cars there. With our two cars there, the lot actually became full!
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Nothing of any significance
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The only blowdown I remember was a leaner on the upper portion of Hammond Trail shortly before you reached Liberty Trail. A pain to get under. Mid-sized. Hammond Trail is blazed in yellow and so is Liberty I believe. Some blazes on the ledges and some were practically non-existent they were so faded but many were still visible and below tree line they didn’t look nearly as worn. The trail was pretty easy to follow other than perhaps on the ledges without a whole lot of blaze. May have to try going one way, then another. I think at one of the earlier ledges it was unclear if the trail went right or left. Go right.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: One little scramble some may need a hand up but most hiking dogs should be fine.
Bugs
Bugs: Surprisingly, I do think I saw some mosquitos and such down low.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: None

Comments: Another tab bites the dust! One of the few chads I left...the Jim Liberty Spring Spur. This was a nice afternoon hike that didn’t start until 4pm. Glad to be doing it with a trail runner that was faster than me and kept me moving. Very happy to have his company on this tab finish :) Saw a couple people coming down as we were headed up, then three USFS workers working on the cabin and staying at the end of the spring spur. Great conversation with them. Saw another couple headed up for a post-sunset hike as we were headed down.

The trail was very dry. Some leaves beginning to litter the trail. Don’t forget to check out the view spur on your right as you’re ascending near the flat high point of the trail on Bald Mtn. The herd path is a little obscure but not too bad. The spring spur is located behind the cabin and begins by paralleling one of its walls before turning down to the right. Not too hard to find but make sure you go ALL the way down it if redlining. The spring still had a little water in it but was mostly dry. Put on headlamps just past 7pm and made it down by 7:30pm :)
