Back again to finish up a bit of field work. Yellow Trail is a real delight once south of its final junction with Blue Loop. The ridge walk between Cole and Cooley has a very wild and remote character through gorgeous woods. Lots and lots of clear animal paths in the open area just north of Cooley.
From the fire tower remnants, I did a short bushwhack to the high point, initially following a pretty clear herd path. I wandered about the very flat summit but didn't see a register.
I also took a side trip down Jericho Road Trail for about 0.1 mi., then took a side path to an excellent view of Franconia Ridge rising beyond Cannon Mountain.
I returned mostly via the same route, but took Blue Loop down from the ledge outlook at the fairy garden. Lots of fall color emerging on these trails! Also, much nicer views due to the clear weather than when I was out here the other day. |
